Assessor

The Tax Assessor's office is responsible for assessing the value of real property for tax purposes.  In addition our office maintains maps indicating property boundaries, addresses where real property tax bills are sent, and current owner information.

Our office has a dedicated and friendly staff who can help you with property questions.  In addition to the Assessor we have two appraisers, a mapping and drafting specialist, and our office manager.

What This Office Does:

  • Appraise Real Property & Manufactured (Mobile) Homes for tax purposes
  • Conduct a County Wide Reassessment (PDF) every 5 years as required 
    by the S. C. Department of Revenue and the S. C. Code of Laws
  • Accept & process appeals of values generated by this office
  • Reflect the transfer ownership of real property through recorded deeds & wills
  • Map and maintain property boundary lines using recorded information for visual
    representation of each parcel of land
  • Process Legal Residence and Agricultural Special Assessment Applications (PDF) 
  • Create and maintain property record cards (Showing sketches of buildings, ownership & other related information)
  • Provide aerial & tax maps for sale upon request (County Index Map) (PDF)  (Map Products & Pricing) (PDF)
  • Measure & appraise new construction for tax purposes
  • Maintain & process Multiple Lot Discount applications for developers 
    owning 10 or more lots in a homogenous neighborhood (See Multi Lot Application) (PDF)
  • Process Homeowners’ Association Special Valuation Applications on qualifying Homeowners properties (See Homeowners’ Association Application) (PDF)
  • Provide rollback tax information estimates and calculates rollback taxes (See Rollback Taxes) (PDF)
  • Change mailing addresses for real property & mobile or manufactured home owners as 
    requested in writing by the property owner
  • Issue Moving Permits for Mobile or Manufactured Homes
  • Issue new Decals for Mobile or Manufactured Homes registration (See Requirements) (PDF)  (Smoke detector certification) (PDF)
  • Represent the County in real property & mobile home value appeals to 
    the Board of Assessment Appeals

This office DOES NOT:

  • Give legal or estate planning advice
  • Research real property for legal claim (AKA Title Searches)
  • Survey property, create plats or establish pin locations
  • Have tax or other information on vehicles, boats, motors, or other personal property (See Auditor)
  • Accept payments for County property taxes (See Treasurer)
  • Issue building permits or maintain zoning information (See Building and Planning)
  • Assign site addresses (See 911 Addressing)

  • Grant Homestead Exemptions for those over 65 or 100% disabled (See Auditor)
  • Set millage rates
  • Give information on delinquent taxes (See Delinquent Tax Collector)
  • Set or change fees (i.e. Fire Fees)
  • Assess manufacturing or utility properties (See S. C. Department of Revenue)
