Calhoun County has been hard at work putting your penny to work for our communities.

Through the Capital Projects Sales Tax (CPST), we have made significant investments in infrastructure, public safety, recreation, and community development across the county. These projects were made possible through the one-cent sales tax approved to directly benefit Calhoun County residents.

Every project listed reflects our commitment to improving public safety, strengthening infrastructure, enhancing recreation, and investing in the future of Calhoun County.

CPST 1 – Joint Calhoun County Water Line Project

• The extension of the Lake Marion Regional Water Authority distribution line and related infrastructure to serve Creston, Midway, Cameron, and St. Matthews.

CPST 2 – Cameron Historical Depot Project

• Design and remodel the train depot located downtown Cameron into a multi-use community facility.
• Status: Complete

CPST 3 – Sandy Run Fire Substation

• Design and build a 7,040 square foot, three-bay station with training room located on K Avenue.
• Status: 95% Complete

CPST 4 – Sandy Run Fire Ladder Truck

• 2010 Pierce Arrow XT 95 Mid Mount Ladder Truck housed at the K Avenue Red Rock Station No. 11.
• Status: Complete

CPST 5 – St. Matthews Demolition and Park Project

• Demolition of dilapidated structures in town and renovate parks
• Status: Complete

CPST 6 – St. Matthews Lake Inspiration Park Project

• Renovate park
• Status: Complete

CPST 7 – Calhoun County Animal Control

• Demolition and removal of 1,240 square foot old kennel.
• Construction of 501 square feet of new office space and 3,640 square feet of climate-controlled kennel space.
• Status: Complete

CPST 8 – St. Matthews Downtown Streetscape

• Improvements to the downtown area
• Status: Complete

CPST 9 – St. Matthews Public Safety Renovation

• Renovation to the old town hall
• Status: Completed

CPST 10 – Cameron Demolition Project

• Clean up of dilapidated buildings within town limits.
• Status: Complete

CPST 11 – Calhoun County Emergency Communications

• Purchased new radios for use by emergency services.
• Status: Complete

CPST 12 – Calhoun County Ambulance Project

• 2022 Ford F350 Ambulance.
• Status: Complete

CPST 13 – Sandy Run Fire Pumper Tanker

• 2025 Freightliner Pumper Tanker housed at Station 11.
• Status: Complete

CPST 14 – Sandy Run Recreation

• Fencing and security cameras.
• Electrical upgrades.
• Ballfield lights and building upgrades.
• Parking upgrades.
• 6,600 feet of walking track rubber surfacing.
• Status: Complete

CPST 15 – Calhoun County Water Line

• Water line replacement – Carolina Lane & Stable Hill.
• Water line installed – Dry Springs Road.
• Water line extension – Highway 601 and 176.
• Status: Complete
